The Waimea Arts Council presents the 29th annual Na ‘Opio Youth Juried Art show on exhibit at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea during the month of March. Artwork on exhibit shows the work of students grades 6 – 12 from the North Kohala, South Kohala and Hamakua Districts.Students from public and private schools, as well as home-schooled children, will be represented. This year celebrates the 52nd year of Youth Art Month, reminding us of the need for art in all areas of life, not only as a means of expression but to stimulate the young people around us,enabling their developing minds to accept all forms of learning.
Judging was done within each age group. The juror this year was Tedd Nash Pomanski, Hilo born, who has been a featured artist in galleries across the world since age 17. He recently returned to his home on the Big Island, to focus on drawing the waves of Hawaii and figurative and abstracted landscapes, with an emphasis on cultural and historic impact of the resorts of the Kohala Coast. Tedd has worked with young people in numerous artistic endeavors and is passionate about the necessity of art in the lives of children.
Cash prizes and award certificates were presented at a reception for the artists on Sunday afternoon, March 3. The public is cordially invited to view the creative work of our young artists. Contact the Youth Art Show Chair, Janice Gail at (808) 936-1449 for more information.
