October 3 – 28, 2018
During the month of October, the Waimea Arts Council is presenting their annual juried art show, open to all WAC members, new and long- standing. The show will be on exhibit from October 3 – 28 at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea. The exhibit includes paintings in all mediums plus drawings, sculptures, woodwork and photographs from artists all over the island.
While this annual show has in the past been dedicated to one our founders, Helen M. Cassidy, it was decided to change the name this year to honor all of the special people who worked hard to put together an arts organization dedicated to encouraging local artists back in 1976. (See article in this issue).
Cash awards will be presented to the winners at a reception to be held on Saturday, October 6 from 3 – 5 pm at the gallery. The public is invited to attend and pupus will be served.
This year’s invited juror is Esther Szegedy. Her pastel on paper art is shown and sold in numerous galleries around the state and has been used to illustrate several children’s books. Living outside of Hilo, her often whimsical pieces are definitely grounded in tropical locales. Whether underwater or in the rainforest – they are not your expected Hawaiian imagery. Esther judged the show and will be at the opening to give individual artists a chance to delve into her thoughts more deeply. This year 19 pieces were selected to be in the exhibit.
This year’s winners are:
