From June 4-27, 2021, the Firehouse Gallery presents “Exploring the Big Island”, featuring art by local artists. Think sunsets, forests, mountains, beaches, flora, and fauna. The artwork in the show are originals, ready to hang, and priced at affordable levels.
This was an open call for an art show, as any artist on the Big Island could submit pieces for consideration. The pieces selected for the exhibition were curated by Irina V. Place. She states, ”In my selection, I was guided by the thought that ‘Exploring the Big Island’ is not only about the views of the island but also about discovering how artists interpret their experiences of living in Hawaii, what moves the creativity and how it could be conveyed through art.”
Artists to be shown include Joshua Gerbert, Ilmar Reinvald, Ethel Mann, Norma Watt, J. West, Parker Mason, Kathleen Carr, Linda Watson, Cathy Cordry, Barbara Schaefer, Julie McCue, Chris Kutler, Laurel Oglesby, Irina Place, Kevin Spitze, Lorie Taylor, Lorraine Flanders Urbic, Kathy Sprinkle, Laura Bauer, Susan Grant, Suzanne MacAdam, Dawn Sagar, and Suzi Lacey.
The Firehouse Gallery is located in the old county fire station at the main intersection in Kamuela., at 67-1201 Mamalahoa Hwy. Regular hours are Friday-Sunday 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, plus additional days when the flags are waving. Mask wearing is mandatory.
