September 3 – 26, 2014
During the month of September, the Waimea Arts Council presents an exhibit of unique art photography by Joe Laceby. The show will open on September 3 at the Firehouse Gallery and will run through September 26. There will be an artist’s reception on Friday, September 5 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the gallery. Friends and the public are invited to attend. Joe Laceby is an artist living and working along the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island. Born in 1970, his life has always had an artistic element. He received his B.A. from the University of Hawai’i. Prior to that, Joe studied in Wyoming where he received his A.A. degree. Through the years he has focused on honing his skills in several mediums, including sculpture, metal fabrication and photography. Using these and other skills, he is able to meld the soft graininess found in old-style cyanotype photography with the polished hardness of steel framing. Further enhancing this is the plastic-like, fluid nature of hand forged elements. The culmination is a piece that works to form the intersection of visually soothing and thought provoking content. Be sure to drop by and take a look at this unique exhibit.
