For the months of December and January, the Firehouse Gallery presents the Tropical Palette group exhibition by the Kohala PleinAir Artists, an informal group that enjoys painting in the beautiful Hawaiian landscape on Friday mornings at varied locations on the north leeward side of the island.
PleinAir paintings began in France in the 1800s when tube paints became available. This enabled painters to escape the confines of the studio, where they had to grind and mix their own paints, and get outside in nature and enjoy it at the same time. The challenges are the constant change of light, shadows, color, bugs, wind, rain and other distractions. The benefit is being able capture the mood of the sea or landscape.
Featured Kohala PleinAir artists include: Julie Barreto, Lynn Chapman, Virginia Fortner, Janice Gail, Peter Jefferson, Chris Kutler, Jan Marrack, Carol McMillan, Liz Pullen, Ilmar Reinvald, Victoria Serrao, Jane Word Taylor, and Helen White.
Firehouse Gallery is open 11-3 Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It is located at 67-1201 Mamalahoa Hwy., Kamuela, Hawaii. Mask wearing is mandatory. For questions, email: waimeaartscouncil@gmail.com or visit www.WaimeaArtsCouncil.org.
